Is Chamas.pt an official civil protection service?
No. It is an independent platform that visualises public data. In an emergency call 112 or 117 and follow the authorities.
What are active fires?
Active fires are rural wildfire incidents still under ANEPC/PROCIV operational follow-up — typically dispatch, ongoing or resolution. On Chamas.pt they appear on the map and the active-fires page while in the operational cache.
Where do active fire data come from?
Incidents and resources come from ANEPC/PROCIV. Weather risk and warnings come from IPMA. Satellite heat detections include NASA FIRMS; burned-area context includes ICNF and EFFIS/Copernicus.
How often is data updated?
Operational cache refreshes automatically several times per hour from public sources. There may be minutes of delay versus the field.
What do map statuses mean?
Ongoing (still spreading), resolution (held perimeter / mop-up), dispatch/first alert (resources en route), surveillance/closed (extinguished).
When should I call 112 or 117?
Call 112 for any emergency. Use 117 (forest line) to report rural fires. Chamas.pt does not replace these numbers.
What should I do if I see a wildfire?
Call 112 or the forest line 117, move away safely, and follow official instructions. Do not treat this site as an emergency channel.
